Officer Involved Shooting in South LA July 5, 2025 LAPD Southwest Division

On Saturday, July 5, 2025, around 3:45 PM, LAPD Southwest Division Gang Enforcement Detail officers were involved in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) near Martin Luther King Jr. Park, along the 3900 block of South Western Avenue. The incident began when officers attempted to stop 26-year-old Ernesto Sepulveda, who was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. Sepulveda fled on foot and opened fire on officers during the pursuit, striking one officer in the legs and cheek. Officers returned fire, and the suspect continued to flee, eventually discarding a malfunctioning ghost gun in the process. He was later taken into custody in the park after a Non-Categorical Use of Force (NCUOF). Both the officer and Sepulveda were transported to local hospitals.
