Analyst: Shia militias appear to be menace in Mosul offensive

Shia militias in Iraq say they've launched an attack against ISIL fighters west of Mosul, as a major offensive to recapture the city from the armed group continues. While the Shia operation may help to tighten the noose around ISIL's Iraq stronghold - it could inflame sectarian tensions in a mainly Sunni region. The Iran-backed paramilitaries bring additional firepower to the two-week campaign to flush ISIL out of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city. Michael Pregent, a former US Intelligence Officer and Military Adviser, who's served in Iraq and has advised both Peshmerga and Iraqi Security Forces, talks to Al Jazeera about how the problems caused by Shia militias operating free of the Iraqi military's control.
