This procedure can be done under local anesthesia and or intravenous and or general anesthesia at our AAAHC fully accredited cosmetic surgery center In El Cerrito, California. We are in the San Francisco Bay area. Nerve blocks are not needed. A Nurse Anesthetist or Anesthediologist is available for a Blepharoplasty. Local anesthesia decreases the risk of bleeding, bruising, pain, nausea and vomiting. Eyelid surgery involves removing the upper and or lower eyelid excess skin and or excess fat ( blepharochalasia). Part of the orbicularis muscle is usually excised. Dr. Patino currently cauterizes the orbicularis muscle instead of excising it which can cause bleeding. As a result, the procedure is nearly bloodless. Care is taken to preserve the levator muscle which elevates the eyelids. This procedure is also known as an eyelid lift or medically speaking a blepharoplasty. Sometimes and Eye Brow Lift is often recommended. A canthopexy ( canthoplasty) which is the suspension of the eyelid can be done at the same time and it is sometimes indicated specially in older patients. A Facelift and Neck Lift is also often recommended it if there is significant face and neck deflation deterioration and descent. During a blepharoplasty the fat pads are usually removed. Tear trough deformities are usually corrected. Malar bags are difficult to correct and may involve additional procedures including excision and or fat grafting to the face. Easy financing is available and the prices are competitive and affordable. Cosmetic surgeons and Plastic surgeons usually perform these procedures. Any Physician with a valid Medical Doctor California license can perform these surgeries provided that they have adequate training and experience. Beautiful results can be obtained but results vary with each individual patient. The wounds in the eyelids usually heal very well. Hypertrophic scars and keloids are extremely rare in the eyelids. A fat transposition maybe indicated which involves moving the herniated fat pads to cover any nearby volume loss areas. Eye shields can be used to protect the eyes ( the orbit) during a blepharoplasty. The incisions are closed with sutures which are removed 5 to 7 days after the procedure. Some surgeons include the tarsal plate in the skin closure. Recovery is 3 to 14 days. Before and after photos are taken six weeks after the surgery.
