I've loved folding the Origami Magic Ball ever since I discovered it on Joe Nakajima's channel. The original designer is Yuri Shumakov. My version uses eight pieces, overlapped and glued. Why 8 pieces? First, it’s a chance to add some colour. Those 15 cm multicoloured packs are ideal. The glue and overlap make for a more rigid ball. Try Daiso for glue tape. Otherwise, an ordinary glue stick will do. Lastly the smaller pieces make for easier folding, allowing for the precrease and collapse method. I've taken some shortcuts by using 8 horizontals instead of 16, and folding diagonals in 2 sets of 2x2 squares at a time, using a diagonal crimp which leaves only necessary creases. The first section of the video shows the simplest model, made with 3x8 sections of ordinary Origami squares. The second section, at 4:18, shows some extra steps to measure 2.5x8 pieces from A4 sheets. The A4 sheets should be 80gsm or higher, to give the ball the necessary stiffness. The 3rd section, at 6:25, uses 5x8 pieces to make interlocking pieces that connect without glue. These pieces should be made of thinner paper.
