Greek Cheese Review: Tasting Tinos' Petroma Cheese by Mantalena

In this video we review another Greek cheese : Petroma from the island of Tinos, produced by Mantalena. Petroma is a cheese produced from fresh cow's milk. After the milk has thickened, it is placed between stones which press it so that the curd leaves. The cheese's name comes from the marble slabs where it was pressed in the past, although some say that its name comes because it is as hard as a stone (Petra or Petroma, in Greek). The cheese is unsalted and is used as a raw material for the preparation of a spicy dip and other Tinian cheeses. It is also used in confectionery and cooking. In the island of Tinos it frequently replaces Feta cheese in salads.
