SMCI Lecture Series December 12, 2023. Our mission is to advance health equity, nursing practice, patient care, and research across Stanford Medicine and society-at-large through leading, developing, sponsoring, and sustaining research partnerships with our Primary Care & Population Health (PCPH) Division and the larger Stanford School of Medicine, community-based organizations, nursing academia, and care delivery institutions. Through interprofessional collaborations with Stanford Health Care (SHC) and PCPH, the Nursing Research Section engages in a shared research agenda that empowers and prepares innovative health care leaders to address systematic injustices and promote a legacy of health equity. Our division’s nursing research faculty program was launched in 2017, in partnership with Nursing and Patient Care Services at SHC as a strategic priority. SHC continues to serve as a primary sponsor of the nursing faculty appointments and the newly launched PCPH Nursing Research Section. We aim to elevate future nurse leaders driven by a passion for discovery, healthcare innovation, scientific research, and operational impact. The Nursing Research Section curriculum will prepare health care leaders for clinical and nursing research practice and operations excellence. We believe that by building alliances between our academic institution, nursing, and interprofessional researchers, and the community, we will inspire advances in health equity and research. Whether you are a community organization, academic nursing institution, current faculty, staff, or trainee/student at the School of Medicine or SHC looking to collaborate, we invite you to explore with us how we can potentially work together to build mutually beneficial knowledge sharing, resources, and opportunities to improve clinical practice, patient care, and health equity. Michelle Y. Williams, PhD, RN, FAAN, serves as the Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Research and Health Equity at Stanford Health Care (SHC), Clinical Assistant Professor and Section Chief of the Nursing Research Section, Division of Primary Care Population Health, Department of Medicine, at Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Williams is the founding president of the Stanford Medicine Black Nurses Association Chapter of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). She holds executive board and committee chair appointments within the NBNA. Dr. Williams is also a member of the American Case Management Association board of directors, where she contributes to building case management standards for social health needs. She has over 30 years of executive, research and leadership experience as a chief nurse executive, director of maternal child health, director of mental health and forensic psychiatry, director of nursing administration and operations, director of quality assurance performance improvement, director of nursing academic and grant-funded programs, regional senior health plan director, and national director of technology innovation and research, among others.
