Storm Desmond in December 2015 caused destruction and devastation in the area and, along the old railway path, destroyed two old Victorian bridges and hundreds of metres of trackbed path. The popular path has been mostly closed for the five years since but in December 2020 the reinstatement works have been complete and the track is back open again. Between the National anti-Covid Lockdowns we are enduring currently, I managed a dash up to the Lake District to enjoy the path once again. As my narration explains, I have been enjoying this area since the late 1970s. This trip was, for me, full of nostalgia, enjoyment and a sense of ‘completion’ as the formal reopening of the path took so long. I hope you enjoy / enjoyed the story and views along the way. I plan to re-visit this summer, if restrictions allow, and re-film the path with better weather. I have some old photos to include and share as well. If you have any old photos of the line you can share, or have any questions, suggestions or general comments please do say below. I step out for fun and my own personal enjoyment. What I do is at my own risk. I do not suggest anyone does what I do, the way I do it, where I go or anything else in my videos. I’m always mindful of my own safety and doing what is right with respect to the environment and others on the hills. If you watch my videos, please enjoy them as they are and don’t necessarily assume they are examples of excellent practice. I’m learning along the way too. As always, every fell-walker goes out on their route taking on responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing, accessing areas that are open to the public or asking for permission as necessary. I totally support the #LeaveNoTrace campaign and encourage everyone to follow that too. So, if you venture out, please respect the environment, be considerate to others along the route, stay safe, wear, carry and use the clothes and equipment that you need for your trek, have ample food and drink for the duration of your trek, navigate carefully and keep within the limitations of your fitness and abilities. Let others know where you plan to go and when you will return. Stay Safe. Enjoy!
