Epic Hike: Old Rag Mountain | Shenandoah National Park | Rock Scramble

In January 2021 we visited the Shenandoah National Park to take the epic trail that is Old Rag Mountain Loop. For us, this challenging hike was a 10.3 mile venture that included 2,635 feet of elevation gain to a 3,291-foot peak. It also included a wicked rock scramble that was over a mile long - and an exposed, rocky summit with breathtaking panoramic views (or was it the rock scramble that took my breath away?). There is good reason that this hike is the park's most popular - as well as it's most dangerous. The day started sunny with light traffic on the trail, but ended with sleet and snow as we found ourselves alone for almost the entire descent back to the trailhead. It was a truly epic hike that should be on any avid hiker's bucket list!
