The origin story of an unlikely hero as told by a tavern bard in RPG Fantasy style. Lyrics and Production by Chad Jones Cover Art Design and Direction by Chad Jones / AI Assisted Lyrics The Tale of Sir Knot-Sure Intro (The bard begins his tale) Our tale begins like any other, Child born of a fading mother. Father lost to far flung war. Who will care for what she bore? Enter priests of shining light, Taking mercy on their plight. Why not cure the dying mother? Why save one but not the other? Sad beginnings win our heart! No one wants a fresh upstart. Make them overcome the worst! Heroes rise from lives deemed cursed. Chorus 1 (Tavern toasts agreement) Make our hero more well-versed. Raise a glass to child cursed! Pour one out for mother’s sake, And the choice the clerics make! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, In this little hero’s play! Verse 1 (Orphan gets a home) So, our hero born, then raised, In an orphan home for strays. As a young boy, taken in, By a knight with no children. Clothed, and fed, and educated. Adequately situated. But the knight had one desire, Not a son, but more a Squire. Trained for battle, trained for chores, Trained for tending gear and sores, Trained to care for horse and home, Trained to keep close and not roam. Chorus (Tavern toasts the knight) Raise a glass to child raised, By a knight worthy of praise! Pour a drink for single father! When so few won’t even bother! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, In this little hero’s play! Verse 2 (Trouble in the village) Our boy became a fine young man, As fit the knight’s own long-term plan. Sharp of wit, so quick and clever, And an unmatched training partner. Then one day the knight fell sick, Likely from his tavern trip. Alas his timing truly sucked. A goblin band had run amok. The local village sent a plea, But our knight could hardly see! The knight no help, and people scared, The Squire started to prepare. Chorus (Tavern toasts opportunity) Raise a glass to Squire bold, As his mentor’s health did fold! Bless the knight’s need to recover, For the chance to be discovered! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, In this little hero’s play! Verse 3 (Squire versus goblins) Into town, the Squire strode, Goblins waiting on the road. Then the leader raised a shout, Big and loud, the greasy lout. He charged the Squire with a yell, The rest of them, confused as hell. Wildly the goblin ran. Squire watched him with a plan. Waiting, watching, raising blade, Praying for the choice he made. On the sword tip goblin leaped, Showing shock in what he’d reaped. Chorus (Tavern toasts the hero) Such a hero never seen, Slaying brigand gross and green! Calculated or dumb luck, Lethal was the blow he struck! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, In this little hero’s play! Verse 4 (A squire revealed) Now, goblins aren’t the bravest bunch, On this, Squire made his hunch. Goblins, wide-eyed, turned to run, Seeing what the “knight” had done. Out of houses people poured, Cheering victory he scored. “Hero! Champion!” they cried. Squire’s chest was filled with pride. A damsel aiming for a kiss, Being sure she wouldn’t miss, Took the helm from off his head. The cheering crowd went silent, dead. “You’re not Godfrey!” Damsel cried. “Why beneath this helmet hide?” “What’s your name?” asked child pure. Squire stammered, “I’m not sure.” Chorus (Tavern toasts the reveal) Raise a glass to damsel sweet, And the child in the street. Questions raised and answer given, Made way for a hero risen! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, In this little hero’s play! Verse 5 (Sir Knot-Sure is knighted) And that is how our story started, With a mother long departed, Orphaned child, raised by knight, Stepped into a goblin fight. Let the record show, you see, This case of lost identity. Thinking he had said his name, Sir Knot-Sure soon grew in fame! Sir Knot-Sure’s mentor retired, Leaving title to his Squire. The former knight, his plans complete, Sir Knot-Sure would take his seat. Chorus (Tavern Last Toast) Raise a glass to raise a glass! Raise one for a title passed! Pour another, keep them coming, Sir Knot-Sure’s tale keeps on running! Heroes come and heroes go, We raise a glass to one we know! Sir Knot-Sure will win the day, His legend in our hearts will stay! (Final Moral – Bard addresses crowd) So next time you are left uncertain By a question you are skirting, Like our Squire, just speak true, “I’m Not Sure” will always do!
