The EP brings together the IDM/bass of the Rennes duo CWTCH, then it becomes more houzy with electro/funk inspiration from Wooka, Acid and Detroit 909 energy on Too Smooth Christ minimalist melodies, to finish with the nod to 2000’s progressive/tribal house of Framboisier. Opening track ‘Playwright’ finds CWTCH refining a sound they’ve been patiently hybridising for years. Drawing equally from bass music, dub textures and IDM’s off-kilter logic, the duo deliver a sharply sculpted low-end workout—both functional and exploratory, with a sense of tension. On ‘How We Party’, live performer Wooka, a rising name in France’s micro-house continuum, shifts the focus toward groove. Built around a gradual, hook-laden intro, the track slides effortlessly between house and electro, its funk-inflected swing conjuring an atmosphere that feels both intimate and celebratory. Too Smooth Christ then pulls the EP into more vintage territory with ‘Hearthbeat’. Anchored by minimalist 909 and buoyant acid lines, the track channels the spirit of 90s Detroit techno: joyful, direct and energized. Closing cut ‘Aegis Fate’ sees Framboisier delve into the darker, ritualistic side of 2000s progressive and tribal house. Dense, hypnotic and steeped in groove, it plays out like a shamanic club tool, designed for long transitions and late-night floors.
