In the spirit of collaborative, online, and international learning (COIL), Sussex AI hosted an online debate on AI, with two debate teams comprising students respectively from the University of Sussex and ATLAS SkillTech University, Mumbai, India. The topic for the debate was "How can organisations ensure AI tools are used effectively and ethically in the workplace?" Both teams contributed compelling arguments about: the need for human oversight, and what that might look like; the importance of having diverse users of AI tools so that they might promote inclusivity and accessibility; the impact of AI tools on employment; the utility of open source AI and its challenges. Many thanks to the students who took part on the debate teams — and to everyone who joined in the audience — for a stimulating discussion. University of Sussex team: Alexander Cunningham-Rojas, Louie Thomson, Pardeep Kumar, and Marlow Elliot. ATLAS SkillTech University team: Bhumi Shah, Yash Navani, Vansh Dudani, Prisha Tiwari, Sheethal Enuganti. The event was organised by Dr. James Bennett and Dr. Daniel Creed from the University of Sussex, and Prof. Utsav Shroff and Dr. Satish Upadhyay from ATLAS SkillTech University. Event took place on 9th October 2025.
