Part 5 of our Vietnam travel series brings us to Da Nang and the surrounding region, where coastal scenery, ancient history, and spiritual landmarks come together in a powerful way. Our journey includes a visit to Monkey Mountain (Son Trà Peninsula), a lush nature reserve overlooking the city. Known for its scenic roads, sweeping ocean views, and native wildlife—including the rare red-shanked douc langur—Monkey Mountain offers a peaceful contrast to the energy of Da Nang below. We also explore Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary, one of Vietnam’s most important archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built between the 4th and 13th centuries, Mỹ Sơn was the religious and political center of the ancient Champa Kingdom. Though heavily damaged during war, the remaining brick temples still reveal remarkable craftsmanship and spiritual significance. Another highlight is the Marble Mountains, a cluster of five limestone and marble hills named after the five elements. These mountains are filled with caves, tunnels, pagodas, and Buddhist shrines, long used as places of worship and pilgrimage. From their peaks, the views stretch across Da Nang and the surrounding countryside. This slideshow captures the balance of past and present in central Vietnam—from sacred ruins and spiritual landscapes to vibrant coastal life—making Da Nang and its surroundings a truly unforgettable part of our journey.
