Recently, we drove to the middle of the contiguous United States and wanted to find the closest barbershop to the geographic center of the United Sates which is located outside of the small town of Lebanon, Kansas. After searching the towns of Lebanon and Smith Center, we headed to Downs, Kansas and found the appropriately named Lost Traditions Barber Shop run by local Delmer Rothchild. Delmer got his barber license in 1965 and barbered for 17 years prior to taking a job with the US Department of Agriculture. After retiring, he went back to barbering because he didn’t want to sit at home.
