Ukrainian military intelligence forces have struck high-value Russian radar stations in temporarily occupied Crimea. The strikes also targeted air defense systems, naval vessels, and a helicopter. Ukrainian military intelligence reported that over several days, Ukrainian forces carried out precise strikes that left Russian air defenses helpless. “For days, the occupiers in temporarily occupied Crimea were shaken by unprecedented explosions — their expensive air defense systems proved powerless against the skilled strikes of Ukraine’s military intelligence,” the Special Operations Forces of Ukraine wrote in a statement. It is reported that some radar systems were hit, in particular, Podlyot, Niobiy, Kasta, Imbir, Nebo, S-300, Nebo-M, Protivnik and Mys systems. The S-300 anti-aircraft missile launcher, command posts of the ST-68 radar and Kasta radar, and three Pantsyr-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun systems came under attack. In its assault on Ukraine, Moscow deployed troops and weapons to Crimea, allowing Russian forces to quickly seize large parts of southern Ukraine in the first weeks of the war. A top Russian military official later said that securing a land corridor to Crimea by holding the occupied parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions was among the key goals of what the Kremlin insisted on calling its “special military operation” in Ukraine. The peninsula has become a battleground, with Ukraine launching drone attacks and bombing it to try to dislodge Moscow’s hold on the territory.
