When I first started my farm, my initial cash crop was oyster mushrooms. I was growing them out of buckets and planned on selling them at the Farmer's Market. Well, that didn't work. I didn't plan on little black beetle bugs infesting my crop. Nor did I realize that growing oyster mushrooms in buckets was a bad idea for a commercial operation. You live and you learn. Meanwhile, out in my side yard (where my chickens are now) I was growing crazy big vegetables in hay bales. I mean my lettuce was lettucing chile! My tomato plants were huge, my squash was huge, peppers everything I was growing in these haybales was doing the dang thang!! When I would post pictures of my veggies, people were like how did you get them to grow so well?! That's when it hit me like a ton of bricks!! RABBIT POOP!! I was using the rabbit poop as fertilizer at the recommendation of a grower in Florida who put me on game. Before I planted anything I filled the hole with a bunch of Rabbit Poop and that's what was making my veggies show out! So, when my oyster mushrooms got eaten up and it was time to start selling at the farmer's market...I pivoted into Rabbit Poop Fertilizer. I sold thousands of dollars of this stuff at the Farmer's Market, from my website (which is no longer up), on Amazon, at the Co-op and straight off the farm. It put Out The Mud Farm on the map. And it was such an easy business to start.
