This is for my students in Guatemala at the university of San Carlos, Footlock is an “old school” method of rope ascension, but it is very practical and I still personally use it and prefer it. Every time I set up a rope walking system with three or four ascenders I feel like I am trapped in the equipment. When you can lock the rope with your feet, an ascender in each hand tethered to independent points on your saddle are all you need. Backed up with technique and some abdominal muscles. Remember to keep your knees apart when you lock your feet and try to lock the rope with the ball of your cover foot not the arch of your foot. Practice locking your feet and standing up many times before trying to ascend. Start doing push-ups and sit-ups and pull ups if you can.
