A man was jailed for life over an assault on his mother that left her with fatal injuries. Darren Constant, 39, attacked mother Judy, 59, after he became enraged by his failed attempts to persuade his ex-girlfriend to reconcile. His mother refused to go hospital, claiming she had sustained her injuries by falling down the stairs. She was found dead by her ex-partner at her home in Holloway, north London, the following evening. Constant was originally charged with her murder but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. Sentencing him to a minimum jail term of nine years and four months at the Old Bailey, Judge Mark Lucraft KC, the Recorder of London, said that "no sentence the court can pass could ever reflect the depth of grief suffered by Judy's sisters, her wider family or friends".
