A break down of my favorite "seasonal" tune. Written by Shane McGowan and Jem Finer, recorded in 1987 by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl, and charting at Number 2 in the UK Christmas of that year, it's been hailed as almost an anti-Christmas anthem. Written in D Major. Please excuse the vocals. This one is generally sung a lot, and with gusto, in the pubs back in Padstow at this time of year. Much has been opined concerning the lyric choice in the second verse. Personally, I think "cheap, lousy blaggard" or "cheap f@#king bastard" would work well as substitutions, and are probably more in the original vein than some of the commercial re-recordings. I leave all that up to you.
