FACT. The instructor/student relationship doesn't always gel - that's life and doesn't mean you're a bad instructor. So, in those cases, be honest, be respectful - and move on. What will make you a bad instructor though, in my opinion, is if you take the P*SS by taking your student's money but then not fully supporting them. Learning the technical skills to teach learner drivers is an essential part of the job.
