Makom Shemesh (Sunplace) | מָקוֹם שֶׁמֶשׁ Live in Studio – Canterbury Music Co. “Makom Shemesh (Sunplace)” is the title track from Jaffa Road’s debut album Sunplace, presented here as a live, off-the-floor studio performance recorded at Canterbury Music Company. The song sets original music to a poem by acclaimed contemporary Israeli poet Haviva Pedaya. This performance was filmed during the pandemic as part of a series of intimate in-studio concerts made possible with support from the Canada Council for the Arts. It is part of a larger performance that was used at several on line summer music festivals in 2021. 🎥 Shot and edited by Michael Fisher 🎧 Produced by Aaron Lightstone & Justin Gray Recorded by Julian Decorte Mixed and Mastered by Justin Gray Original Lyrics by Haviva Pedaya Music by Aaron Lightstone, Chris Gartner, Aviva Chernick, Sundar Viswanathan, Jeff Wilson Tamar Ilana - Vocal Aaron Lightstone - Oud Sundar Viswanathan - Sax Justin Gray -Bass Rakesh Tewari - Drums Makom shemesh Zavach me’orav va’yivar Makom zanach karnav va’yach Selah, rosho rach Makom have’etur Makom hakmeha Makom pashut Makom no’ash Makom libi she’af zarach English Translation (Translation by Rabbi Aubrey Glazer) A place of sun A place out there that the sun consumed And ’twas blazing A place where it abandoned its Beating, stone-tender head Abnegation place A yearning place A simple place A hopeless place A place where heart and hand did shine
