Meet Awura Abena Osei, Awura Abena Osei is a Ghanaian-American and recent college graduate from the illustrious University of Maryland, College Park, earning a Bachelor’s of Arts in French Language and Literature. Although she pursued a degree in the French language, Osei rediscovered her love and natural talent for writing. Incorporating these skills, she created AshantiGirl TV (@ashantigirltv), a production company that recounts the stories of the diaspora. She launched her first project, “Undecided,” on October 11, 2020 on YouTube. This comedic and dramatic web series follows the life of a young Ghanaian-American woman, Akua Asante, who is trying to navigate her way through university life despite the trials that she faces with friendships, roommates, romantic relationships, and simply choosing a major that best suits her interests. The character balances all of this while trying to maintain the exceptionally high standards that her parents have set out for her. The high-quality production of this web series is brought by a team of skillful videographers, photographers, editors, and producers including Osei, whom are all of African descent. In the near future, Osei hopes to share more stories that focus on the lives of this typically misrepresented population and partner with larger corporations. Her goal is to show the world the life of an immigrant’s child through the lens of those who uniquely experienced this upbringing. She aims to create a space for viewers to witness firsthand the trials and victories of a first generation American in an African household using media arts.
