Jan Vogler, born 1964 in East Berlin, is one of the world’s most successful solo cellists, and has received numerous awards for his work. He has been the artistic director of the Moritzburg Festival, held near Dresden, since 2001. Since 2008 he has additionally been artistic director of the renowned Dresden Music Festival. Vogler lives in New York, the cello he plays was made in 1707 by Antonio Stradivari. We met Jan Vogler at the 2020 Moritzburg Festival – one of the world’s foremost chamber music festivals. He spoke to us about his instrument, his passion for music, his life in New York, and trans-Atlantic commuting. In the interview he further touches upon his work outside of the music itself, including his position as festival director, and his new online concert platform, Dreamstage.
