Video transcript: Since January 1st, 2010, all manufacturers are required to use R410a, or Puron refrigerant exclusively in all charged central air conditioners and heat pumps. This new refrigerant is replacing R22, which was commonly used prior to the development of chlorine-free R410a. Here at Ingram's Water and air, we know that the compressor is the most important part of any heat pump or air conditioner. Newly manufactured compressors are designed and built to be used with Puron refrigerant exclusively. Our condensers use smaller heavy duty scroll compressors, which run more quietly and with less destructive vibration than older R22 reciprocating compressors. Because Puron refrigerant is a more efficient heat exchanger than R22 refrigerant, compressors which use R410a run cooler and reduce the chances of burning out because of overheating. If you aren't sure which refrigerant is best for your system, call Ingram's Water and Air Equipment at 1-855-INGRAMS. We will be happy to discuss the differences between R22 and R410a refrigerants. What you need usually depends on whether you are going to install a completely new heating and cooling system or just a portion of your current system such as the condenser or coil.
