David Shephard had a successful career in IT, specifically working for Reuters training room systems. However, in 1990, he decided to make a change and started his own business as a franchisee for a management consultancy firm. As part of the franchise deal, he had to undergo training to become a consultant, which introduced him to the concept of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Fascinated by NLP, David sought more knowledge on the subject and was recommended Tony Robbins's book, "Unlimited Power." At that time, the book was not readily available and had to be ordered through a specialist bookstore, arriving discreetly in brown paper wrapping.
