INFINITI FX35 P0302. NIGHTMARE MECHANIC/COIL REPLACEMENT

Many mechanics aren't worth the ink that they use to write their mechanic signs. Took my 2009 INFINITI FX35 to a so-called mechanic with a code p0302,which is a misfire in cylinder #2. He claimed to have changed the coil but the misfire persisted so I took the car back. He then claimed that the magnetic retarder was bad and that there was also an electrical issue and that it could be resolved by replacing the magnetic retarder which costs more than a thousand dollars and there are TWO of them. He also suggested that I should change the cam sensors and the crank sensors as well. I took issue with his analysis given that the misfire was on one cylinder and was not on random cylinders as would be expected if the issue was electrical. Anyway, I replaced the VVT oil control solenoids and the issue persisted so, since I had by this point come to distrust anything he said, I then wondered if he had actually replaced the coil as he claimed. So I checked and no he had not. But before losing my by now very short temper I checked the #1 cylinder just in case and , yep , buddy had replaced the WRONG coil. So here we are. Bought a new one, since he had discarded my perfectly good coil, and replaced it myself. My car now runs perfectly. Guys be careful. Many so-called mechanics are buffoons.
