Hey everyone! In today’s video, we’re diving into the fascinating history of Buc-ee’s, the iconic Texas-born travel stop that’s taken the South (and beyond) by storm, and then zooming in on the awesome Buc-ee’s location right here in Richmond, Kentucky. Buckle up, grab some Beaver Nuggets, and let’s hit the road! Well--- I finally do a video on going to Buc-ee's! I have been to this Buc-ee's so many times throughout my travels of coming down to Kentucky, but have never filmed it. Well... technically not true. There is old footage from a year or so ago but I didn't even really get enough footage to make a video. Maybe someday that video could be released, or maybe even be a members only video when the time comes. This Buc-ee's is located in Richmond, KY. We currently as of March 2025 have 2 Buc-ee's, but are currently in the process of building a new one, so we will have a total of 3 soon! If you've never been to Buc-ee's, let me tell you about it: The History of Buc-ee’s: Buc-ee’s kicked off back in 1982 when Arch “Beaver” Aplin III opened the first store in Lake Jackson, Texas. The name “Buc-ee’s” actually comes from Aplin’s childhood nickname, “Beaver,” paired with a nod to his dog, Buck—pretty cool, right? What started as a small convenience store quickly grew into something way bigger. Aplin teamed up with his buddy Don Wasek, and together they dreamed up a place that wasn’t just a gas station but a full-on experience. By 1986, they’d opened their second location in Wharton, Texas, and the Buc-ee’s we know today—with its massive stores, spotless bathrooms, and endless snacks—was starting to take shape. The big game-changer came in 2001 when Buc-ee’s opened its first “travel center” in Luling, Texas. This wasn’t your average pit stop—it had dozens of gas pumps, a sprawling store, and a vibe that screamed Texas pride. From there, Buc-ee’s became famous for things like the “world’s cleanest restrooms” (seriously, they’ve won awards for this), fresh brisket sandwiches, homemade fudge, and those addictive Beaver Nuggets—puffed corn coated in flavors like caramel or cinnamon. By 2019, Buc-ee’s started expanding beyond Texas, popping up in states like Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, building a cult following of road-trippers and snack lovers. Today, there are over 40 locations, including the world’s largest convenience store in New Braunfels, Texas, at a whopping 66,335 square feet. And get this—they’ve got an even bigger one planned for Sevierville, Tennessee, at 74,000 square feet! Buc-ee’s isn’t just a stop; it’s a destination. Buc-ee’s in Richmond, KY: Now, let’s talk about the Buc-ee’s that put Kentucky on the map—the Richmond location! Opened on April 19, 2022, this was the first-ever Buc-ee’s in the Bluegrass State, and it’s been a hit ever since. You’ll find it at 1013 Buc-ee’s Blvd, right off I-75 at Exit 83 near Duncannon Lane. This place is massive—53,000 square feet of pure Buc-ee’s goodness, with 120 fueling stations outside, making it a dream for travelers heading through Richmond, a town known as a gateway between the South and Midwest. Inside, it’s everything you’d expect from Buc-ee’s and more. We’re talking walls of beef jerky, fresh barbecue like brisket and pulled pork, kolaches (a Texas-style pastry with sausage), and, of course, those famous Beaver Nuggets. They’ve got Kentucky flair too—look for local merch like Buc-ee’s shirts with a Bluegrass twist. The bathrooms? Sparkling clean, with full-door stalls and attendants keeping them spotless 24/7. It’s open round-the-clock, so whether you’re road-tripping at dawn or midnight, they’ve got you covered. This location brought 175 full-time jobs to Richmond, with starting pay well above minimum wage, plus perks like three weeks of paid vacation and a 6% 401k match—pretty sweet deal! Locals and travelers alike went wild at the grand opening, with folks lining up before 6 a.m. and the Buc-ee’s beaver mascot cutting the ribbon. Mayor Robert Blythe’s a huge fan—he’s basically the unofficial president of the Richmond Buc-ee’s fan club, stopping by almost daily for the fudge. It’s not just a store; it’s boosted the whole area, drawing visitors who stick around to explore Richmond’s charm. So, what do you think—have you been to the Richmond Buc-ee’s yet?
