In this video, we take a look at the coloring, setting, and overall physical journey in "The Road Within", and how it compliments and lines up with the emotional journey that the characters go through. This video is my submission for The Essay Library's first ever video jam, an itch.io game jam-style challenge in which we were given 48 hours to make a video essay based on the given theme, which was "Journey". The full playlist of essays made for this challenge can be found here: • The Essay Library Video Jam - Journey Also, I was struggling to title this, so I want to thank both @KyletheScott and @KalTheSkeleton, because the final title was a combination of suggestions from both of them. ~ TIMESTAMPS ~ 0:00 - Intro 2:07 - The Beginning 7:14 - The Road Trip 17:13 - The Ending 19:05 - Conclusion ~ NOTES ~ PowerDirector (the editing program I use) sometimes has a tendency to wash out footage and images so if that happened here at any point, my apologies (normally I wouldn't even point it out but it seems important to mention considering the topic of this video) My editing program was being extra laggy during this, I think cause the movie file is like 29GB, so apologies if anything looks off or is slightly off time. While I do try to be as in-depth as I can in this video, keep in mind that, as stated above, this was made and published in a 48-hour time limit, so it may not be as in-depth as I would've gone into if I had all the time in the world. Furthermore, as you may have gathered through a cursory glance at my channel, this is a bit outside the realm of the types of content I typically make, which is generally more writing analysis-type stuff as opposed to examinations of visuals. This is me trying something new, so it may not be cream of the crop when it comes to that form of content, especially since I am a senior in high school, not a director, editor, or colorist for film. Most of my "professional" knowledge of color is more set in the realm of graphic design rather than video, and most of what I say in this video is just based on pattern recognition anyways. Yes, I know the poster image I use for the movie is oddly low quality. I promise you, I scoured for a WHILE and that's genuinely the highest quality I could find (of the specific poster that I wanted to use). Curse of being an indie film, I suppose. At the beginning, when I say this video isn't focused on plot, I more meant that it wasn't a plot ANALYSIS, which it's not, this is a visual analysis, but this video still does cover almost the entire plot, hence the spoiler warning. Realized in editing that the first gas station they stop at is called "HIDEAWAY", very clever and I would've commented on it in the video if I had known. When they do the car swap, I just noticed that they're also driving OUT of a shaded, woody area into a more brightly lit location, most noticeably in the shot of Alex running after Robert's car, which I put up on screen at 9:06 ANOTHER THING I noticed while editing: Robert is wearing a blue (cool color) shirt at the beginning of the film. In the scene where he opens up to Dr. Rose, it's open to reveal a white (neutral color) undershirt, and the lighting at the end is bright enough to make his whole shirt look almost white. ~~~ If you like hearing me yap, consider following my main channel. I don't post video essays there (anymore) but I sure don't ever shut up!! / @professorbird Full video essays collection (including those from main channel): • Video Essays I also have a Tumblr ask box if you want to more directly ask me any questions about this channel or my content or if you have specific topics you'd like to see me cover: https://www.tumblr.com/new/ask/thecow... And, finally, for $1 a month, I do have a Patreon. There's no promised exclusive content on there, it's just to help out, but Patrons names will be displayed at the end of video essays / fluffyenderpug
