How To Treat Powdery Mildew. Powdery mildew is a fungal disease that is prevalent in warm, dry weather, and is one of the most common and easily recognised plant diseases. Almost no type of plant is immune, although some are more susceptible than others. Powdery mildew looks like powdery splotches of white or grey which appears on the leaves and stems of plants. Although it affects a great number of plants, the different powdery mildew fungi are host specific, meaning each of the mildew fungi infects only specific plants. Thus, the powdery mildew on your lilacs will not spread to your grapes or roses, for example. So I researched 3 different treatments and decided to do a 10 day trial. The first method I tried was a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, mild hand soap, vegetable oil and water all mixed together. I am delighted to report that after daily spraying for 10 days, all the powdery mildew has gone, and the honeysuckle leaves are once again glossy, shiny and disease free, so I can highly recommend this method of treatment. In this video I take you through the whole process and the 10 day trial. I also explain the other 2 methods I would have tried if the first had been unsuccessful.
