This experiment performed of plants concludes that plants react to music and voices (sounds). Plants get withered when they are insulted and bullied repeatedly but grow in a healthy way when complemented. The experiments done on different types of plants also showed that plants respond differently to different types of music. In an interesting experiment conducted on plants by SWEDISH flatpack giant Ikea, it has been demonstrated that spoken words can positively or negatively affect the growth of a plant. The experiment included two identical plants. Both the plants were kept in similar conditions and same amount of water and sunlight was provided. In this experiment, students recorded two different types of sentences for these plants. For one plant bad words insulting the plant were used while for the other plant, complementary words were used. These two types of recordings were played on loops for 30 days. The insulting words used for one of these plants were like- "You look rotten" and "Are you even alive"? But the complimentary words recorded for the other plant included, "I like you the way you are" and "You're making a difference in the world". For their surprise, after 30 days they found that the plant which got played taunting remarks withered while the other that was complemented was completely healthy. This experiment has proved that saying nice things to plants help them grow better. Various similar types of studies have been done on plants around the world. These studies show that playing music for plants promotes their good health and faster growth. Not only this, the type of music also has a big role in the growth of plants. A greenhouse owner in Colorado conducted an experiment on plants. She studied the effects of various types of music on several plant types. She was surprised when she found that the plants exposed to rock music deteriorated quickly. Not only this within a couple of weeks they died. On contrary to this, the plants that listened to classical music thrived very well. But does it mean that plants like classical music and hate rock music? The answer is No. Actually plants don't have any brain like us that can enjoy music. They don't have any idea about what type of music is being played for them. Actually It's all due to the effects of vibrations created by the sound waves. Because of these vibrations, movements are produced in the cells of plants. And these cell movements stimulate the plants to produce more nutrients. This explains why plants deteriorated when exposed to the Rock music. Actually more pressure is created by the vibrations produced by the rock music which is not suitable for the growth of plants.
