After conducting a thorough investigation, the company devised a solution that involved installing an X-ray machine. The machine, equipped with high-resolution monitors and operated by two staff members, would monitor the assembly line to ensure that soap boxes were not going empty. The team put in significant effort and resources to come up with this solution. However, a low-ranking employee in the company noticed the X-ray machine and monitors and came up with a simpler solution to the problem. They proposed installing an industrial fan that would be directed at the assembly line. When turned on, the fan would blow any empty soap boxes off the line. This solution was significantly less complex and expensive than the X-ray machine. The lesson from this case study is that it is essential to focus on finding solutions rather than solely on the problem. Simple solutions may exist that we may not have initially considered.
