What To Look For In A Graduate Program

Considering going to grad school? Realm Fam members Clarence Coo, Eliana Pipes, Ankita Raturi, and Miranda Rose Hall tell you what to keep in mind to make the best choice! Clarence Coo was born in the Philippines and grew up in a crowded, multilingual household in Virginia. He writes about language, class, and sexuality. His plays include On That Day in Amsterdam, The God of Wine, The Birds of Empathy, and Beautiful Province (Belle Province). His work has been produced or developed at Primary Stages, the Atlantic Theater Company, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, New York Theatre Workshop, and the Bay Area Playwrights Festival. He has received fellowships from the Dramatists Guild of America, the Lark, the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Playwrights Realm, and he has been the recipient of a Whiting Award and the Yale Drama Series Prize. He is a member of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab and an alumnus of New Dramatists. In 2023, his play Chapters of a Floating Life was the winner of the Weissberger New Play Award. Miranda Rose Hall (she/her) is the author of Plot Points in Our Sexual Development (LCT3/Lincoln Center), The Kind Ones (Magic Theatre), Menstruation: A Period Piece (Big Little Theatre Co / LA LGBT Center), and A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction, which is currently touring the UK and Europe. Miranda has written for ABC and Showtime, and is in development with Composition 8 and FX. She is a founding member and artistic leader of LubDub Theatre Co. BA: Georgetown University, MFA: Yale School of Drama. Eliana Pipes is a playwright and screenwriter. She's been awarded the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, Leah Ryan Prize, WAVE Grant, KCACTF Harold & Mimi Steinberg Award, National Latine Playwright Award, and more. Her plays include DREAM HOU$E (world premiere co-production: Alliance, Long Wharf and Baltimore Center Stage, published: Concord Samuel French), BITE ME (South Coast Repertory PPF, NNPN National New Play Showcase), COWBOY AND THE MOON (Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellowship, NNPN MFA Playwright's Workshop), LORENA: A TABLOID EPIC (New York Theatre Workshop Dartmouth Residency, The Playwright's Realm Scratchpad Series).
