SPEAKING: The sitting President, the former PM, the first Foreign Minister, two of the local most honoured historians and other prominent public figures of the Republic of North Macedonia. All of them admitting what everyone else already knows about those basic facts in history... ---------- 1. Prof. Dragi Georgiev, historian, director of the Institute of National History of the Republic of North Macedonia, member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Republic of North Macedonia and chairman of the Joint Multi-Disciplinary Commission from North Macedonian side: Dragi: "It is true that Gotse Delchev says that he is Bulgarian. And to quote (Gotse in his letter to Nikola Maleshevski): "We are part of the Bulgarian people and that these divisions led us to this situation at that time". And here we cannot deny this!" Dragi: "In Macedonia, historiography was a function of nation-building. No one in Macedonia opposed the positions of our historians. No one! The journalist: They had another mission! Dragi: Yes, they had another mission, correct. And now we need to look at history more boldly, if we do, we will increase trust in each other. Yes, this is the way in which our nation is built, and we should not be afraid of that. This nation is built. Yes, in the past there were things that did not correspond to the academic science - things had been covered up or collected selectively. We must admit also that there was falsification of documents - instead of "Bulgarian" the Macedonian historians wrote "Macedonian"." ---------- 2. Stevo Pendarovski, the sitting President of the Republic of North Macedonia: "It is an indisputable historical truth, for all those who have at least a little knowledge from that historical period, that Gotse Delchev declared himself a Bulgarian." ---------- 3. Zoran Zaev, the former leader of SDSM and the former Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia: "Friendly Bulgaria sent a lot of friendly messages that Bulgaria wishes only well to Macedonia. We are brotherly people... We are the SAME people." ---------- 4. Denko Maleski, the first Foreign Minister of then Republic of Macedonia from 1991 to 1993: The journalist: "How we must define the identity of Kraste Misirkov? He is Bulgarian?" Denko: "The identity is... He is Bulgarian, obviously." The journalist: "Why has Gotse Delchev turned into such a subject of a dispute since he has, himself, identified as a Bulgarian?" Denko: "This is correct, he has identified himself as a Bulgarian, this is right. We cannot deny his Bulgarian national feeling, of course." The journalist: "What is the compromise that will lift the blockade for the EU integration of the Republic of North Macedonia?" Denko: "The Macedonian side should face the objective historical truth in a manner I have already explained. The whole objective historical truth is telling us, that yes - we have been one people." ---------- 5. Ivan Katardzhiev, historian, academician (the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts) The journalist: "Can we say with an absolute certainty that the first name of this organization that we celebrate on Oct 23 is indeed "BULGARIAN Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Committees"? Can we consider it as an official position?" Ivan: "There are no dilemmas, today we have documents. I wrote a text about this in 1965. This is the first ever information, on the territory of Macedonia and Bulgaria which revealed that the first documented name of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization is "BULGARIAN Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Committees"." ---------- 6. Katerina Kolozova, professor at the University American College Skopje: "For example, it is indisputable that Gotse Delchev declared himself as Bulgarian. This is indisputable. The facts / documents are stating this." ---------- 7. Vasko Naumovski, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia: "Let's not forget... we cannot escape from the fact that during the socialism historical facts, events, persons were presented in a certain light that suited the official policy of this country (Yugoslavia). There was a good example in your introduction about the "High School of Thessaloniki" where Gotse Delchev and all other revolutionaries studied. To us this is the "High School of Thessaloniki", the "Men's High School" or the "Men's High School of Thessaloniki". But in fact this is a Bulgarian high school. This is an educational institution. There are archives and documents. Fearing that by calling it Bulgarian high school this would threaten our national identity... this word (Bulgarian) is censored in our historiography." ---------- P.S.
