Her mother, Lalgudi Rajalakshmi, was her first teacher, and she later trained under her aunt, Padmavathy Ananthagopalan, and the legendary veena maestro Dr. S. Balachander, even performing alongside him. Influenced by her maternal uncle, Violin Legend Lalgudi Jayaraman, she quickly rose to prominence, becoming one of the youngest veena artistes to receive A-TOP grading from All India Radio. Recognized for her contributions, she was honored with the Kalaimamani award by the Government of Tamil Nadu and earned a Doctorate from the University of Mysore for her research on veena techniques. With a unique style and deep musical expression, Jayanthi has performed worldwide at prestigious venues such as the UN, Theatre de la Ville (Paris), and Woodstock (USA), captivating audiences for over 25 years. She is married to Kumaresh Rajagopalan, the younger of the violinist duo Ganesh–Kumaresh.
