Please watch in HD and with headphones. This was long overdue. Originally I planned a completely different project for this character, but then about two weeks ago I started this out of the blue and that monologue scene from the latest episode made it a whole. It really was perfect timing (and made up a bit for the disappointment about how little happens with only five episodes left). Castiel is one of my most favorite fictional characters of all time and as much as I love him with the Winchesters, Team Free Will and all that, I do believe they (or: a certain one of them) treated him way dirtier than he deserved on multiple occasions. Yes, Dean helped him, inspired him, back when it all started and when he lost his way (like in 7x17 for example), to seek free will and trust his instincts, but since then he also never misses any opportunity to put blame on Cas for stuff that goes wrong. I mean, in the earlier days Cas did make a few bad decisions, but that thing with Mary? Nah, he really wasn't guilty for that one. And how Dean treated Cas, knowing he was in pain after losing his adoptive son? Knowing the pain of losing such an important someone? Come on. That was shitty. I was so happy when Cas finally stood up to him in 15x03. Don't get me wrong, I love Dean too. What I want to say is that after Castiel fell, it wasn't just the support of the Winchesters that helped him keep going. He's his own person and without his own strength he would never have "rediscovered his faith and who he was". He looked for it and he found it. In his adoptive family, in the people he met and the ones he saved. In himself. But the path to that point was very long and very rocky. I tried to capture that with this video. An unhuman search.
