India and ASEAN Economy 1960 - 2030

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising 10 countries in Southeast Asia. India has a long history of political and economic ties with ASEAN, and the two regions have a combined population of over 1.85 billion people. The economic relationship between India and ASEAN is growing, with bilateral trade between the two regions reaching $65.04 billion in 2018-19. India has been focusing on strengthening its economic ties with ASEAN as part of its "Act East" policy, which aims to enhance economic, political, and cultural engagement with the region. India has signed free trade agreements with several ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand, and is in the process of negotiating a regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP) with ASEAN and six other countries. The growth of India's economy has also been beneficial for ASEAN countries, as Indian companies have invested in various sectors in the region, including manufacturing, infrastructure, and technology. In turn, ASEAN countries have become important sources of investment and technology for India. The economic relationship between India and ASEAN has not been without challenges, however. There have been some issues with non-tariff barriers and differences in regulations, which have hindered the growth of trade between the two regions. There is also a need for better connectivity, both physical and digital, to facilitate the flow of goods and services between India and ASEAN. Overall, the economic relationship between India and ASEAN has the potential to be mutually beneficial, as both regions have a large and growing consumer market, and can complement each other in terms of production and distribution. Efforts to improve connectivity and resolve trade barriers will be crucial in realizing this potential.
