In this video, I discuss replacement cycling attacks on the Lightning Network, as theorized in Antoine Riard's latest paper. Is the Lightning Network about to get destroyed? Unlikely. There's a huge bug bounty if you can hack the Lightning Network and no one has claimed it yet, even though Riard has published that paper showing how it can be done. Riard did the right thing here: Bitcoiners should be focused on potential network and protocol vulnerabilities. We need Bitcoin and the Lightning Network to work well when we need it most-- and especially in an environment where it is being attacked by nation-state attackers. It's still too early to tell whether this is a critical vulnerability that cannot be fixed. This is a highly technical area that is probably only understood by a few hundred people worldwide.
