From sunrise at Notch Trail to a scenic drive along Highway 240, the Badlands surprised us with jagged rock formations, wide-open prairies, and a sense of stepping back in time. We tried to stay at Cedar Pass Campground but couldn’t find availability, so we ended up at the KOA nearby. It turned out to be a great basecamp for hiking, getting our park stamp, and soaking in the morning glow over the formations. Along the way, we share what makes the Badlands unique, from its fossil history to the rugged landscape that challenged early travelers. This park might not be the biggest or flashiest on the list, but it’s definitely worth the stop. 👉 Next Up: Voyageurs and Isle Royale National Parks, with Shenandoah and Mammoth Cave later this fall. Then we’ll head south toward Big Bend and Guadalupe Mountains in the winter, before tackling California and Alaska to complete KYD63! 📍 KYD63: Visiting all 63 U.S. National Parks We’re traveling to every U.S. National Park and sharing the adventure each Sunday.
