Are you desperate to find the right talent for your law firm? Well you're not alone right now. I hear all over the social media streets, how awful it is to hire in this market. And today we're gonna talk about it. Hi everybody, I'm Allison Williams, your law firm mentor. Law firm mentor is a business coaching service for solo and small law firm attorneys. We help you to grow your revenues, crush chaos in business and make more money. So a lot of people are having challenges right now with hiring and it is a difficult market. We're hearing all over the news about the great resignation and even though it hasn't had the impact on the legal sector, the way that it has on hospitality and some of our more common interactions day to day, I do want you to seriously think about your hiring strategy. So today we're gonna talk about the don'ts of hiring in a tight market. Don't number one do not under any circumstances be passive in your hiring approach. You can't simply stick an ad up on indeed or zip recruiter or craigslist and think that you're going to get talent the way that you used to be able to do that. You have to be proactive now you have to get into the trenches and you have to go hunt for your talent the same way that you hunt for your business. Don't, Number two do not under any circumstances be desperate. Okay, we all know what desperation looks like, right? That's when you bring someone in and you say, hey, can you read and write and speak the english language, great. You'll be my perfect new Director of marketing Or you ask someone, Hey, how many times have you handled this type of case? And they say, well, you know, I think back in the 80s, sometimes I may have done one. Okay, great. I've got an expert. This person is the one I want on my hook. We know what that looks like, right? And frankly, so the candidates don't believe that there are no talented people in the marketplace right now, simply because you're not encountering them. You have to think about it from the perspective of what you are putting out is ultimately going to yield what you get back. So when you're putting out the same tired old ad that you normally do Or when you're asking people, Hey, I'll pay you $5,000 if you send me someone, I don't think that you're going to get a different type of candidate. You have to use different strategies if you want a different outcome. Alright, Don't. # 3 is don't neglect your culture when you hire. Now, this is probably the one that is probably prolific even when we don't have a tight hiring market, people love to just get a body through the door that has that attitude and that aptitude that we require, right? Can they do the job check? Are they a nice enough person? Check. Do I think they'll fit with my employees? Good enough check. But here's the thing when you are building a business, you are creating an ecosystem and every time you add a person who's not right for that ecosystem, it is gonna take you years to transform your business back to the happy that you had before you brought that toxicity into your company. So it's really important to avoid bringing them in in the first place. Now today we've talked about some of the don't of hiring but you're probably thinking well now I know what not to do, what do I do? What do I need to change about my hiring to get the right talent? And in this market there are some very specific things that I want to share with you about how to do that.
