The Best Non-XLR Audio Recorder The Sony PCM-A10 Audio Recorder Review Good: This recorder is thin, small and light. Compared to other comparable audio recorders the A10 is much more pocketable making it easier to carry and less noticeable when its in your pocket. Good: The built-in mics of the Sony PCM-A10 have adjustable positions. The mics can be placed in a XY stereo position, a straight forward position for speech and angled out for recording environmental sounds. Good: The Sony PCM-A10 also has 16GB of built-in memory and a Micro SD card slot so you can choose to record to one, the other or both. If you record to the onboard storage there is a built-in USB plug to directly connect the recorder to your computer for fast and easy transfer of files. When the recorder is plugged into the computer it reads just like an external drive. Good: The PCM-A10 has a line in for external microphones and a headphone jack. They don't advertise it but the headphone jack can be used as a line out if you are recording directly into a camera so you can mount this device on a camera and use it as a stereo microphone. Good: The A10 also has Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to control the audio recorder remotely using the Sony Rec Remote app for iOS and Android devices. You can also pair Bluetooth headphones to listen to playback wirelessly. Bad/Good: This audio recorder has a built-in rechargeable battery which is long lasting giving you up to 15 hours of recording time on a single charge but if your battery is low you are going to have to wait to recharge it you can't just swap them out like other recorders allow you to do. Bottomline The Sony PCM-A10 is an incredible audio recorder and has many other cool features like rehearsal mode, scene select, nice buttons that are easy to push but not so easy that you will accidentally depress them and most importantly this tiny powerhouse sound amazing.
