CustomCells develops customized batteries for niche markets where neither standardized consumer batteries nor off-the-shelf electric vehicle cells are suitable. The German cell manufacturer essentially produces special formats for expensive, high-performance, nickel-rich NMC battery cells. Many CustomCells customers are willing to pay extremely high prices, as there are very few suppliers of these specialty batteries worldwide – and the requirements can sometimes be highly specific. The LiliumAviation videos used in the video can be found here: / @liliumaviation What do the following battery applications have in common? (1) Rechargeable pacemakers, (2) Formula 1 batteries, (3) Propulsion batteries for air taxis and electric propeller jets, (4) Underwater drones, (5) Batteries for satellites, (6) Batteries for armament and defense applications. Correct! They all entail ultra-individual product requirements: gravimetric and volumetric energy density, power density, service life, safety, and the operating temperature window. Although CustomCells is also a supplier to Porsche, the cell manufacturer from Itzehoe/Tübingen focuses more on smaller (but global) battery markets that are experiencing high growth rates. Our guest, Dr. Dirk Abendroth (CEO of CustomCells), predicts a 100-gigawatt-hour market in the near future: "Our company currently produces approximately 40 MWh per year." The cell manufacturer is constantly searching for the optimal compromise between profitable luxury cells (individual production lines for premium customers) and a production volume that is not too small. Will the company ever operate its own gigafactory? After the divestment from the Cellforce joint venture (2021), which was originally launched with Porsche, CustomCells initially abandoned all plans for its own gigafactory. In the Geladen podcast, Patrick Rosen and Daniel Messling, along with their guests, explore the scientific topics of the energy transition, electromobility, electric cars, and batteries. The podcast is produced by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Geladen mugs, shirts, and caps: https://geladen-der-batteriepodcast.m...
