Caelan Kilheeney! 15:26 2-0 Bloods! Caelan Kilheeney at the double! 17:08 Half time 17:39 2nd Half Kicks off 31:17 Full time 32:43 Outro ---------- Finally, after what seemed an age, the Bloods are back in NWCFL action, and were hoping there would be no hangover from last season's devastating Play-off final loss to Euxton Villa. The new season, means an influx of new players, with Goalkeeper Greg Hall, Defender Jamie Robinson, Midfielder Alik Babayan, Winger Brandon Dawson, and Forward Kyle Campbell all in the starting XI, and making their competitive debuts. Along with the new players, the Bloods debuted their new Home kit, with many of the 624 choosing to match the team with purchases of the replica kit. The first half started with a lot of early pressure from the home side, with new boy Brandon Dawson showing early glimpses of what he is going to bring to Droylsden, linking up well with left back Harry Shipton, however, the first big chance fell to AFC Blackpool, with winger James Hughes narrowly firing wide after an excellent effort on the turn. Droylsden's first real attempt on goal, was also a major talking point in the game. A corner from Caelan Kilheeney was dropped in right on top of the AFC Blackpool Keeper James Whittingham, and with new Blood's centre back Jamie Robinson rising high to challenge for the ball, Whittingham seemed to spill the ball into his own net, but the officials deemed that Blackpool captain Kieran Shaw had cleared the ball before all of it had gone over the line. The next major talking point came towards the end of the first half, when the impressive James Hughes fired in another great effort, forcing new Blood's Goalkeeper Greg Hall into an equally impressive save, pushing the shot onto the bar. What followed next was incredible! The ball cannoned off the bar, and with Hall on the floor, and the ball falling to opposition captain Shaw, he appeared certain to put the away team into the lead. Then seemingly, like WWE star Randy Orton, Hall appeared 'Outta nowhere' to push Shaw's header back onto the bar, to be eventually cleared by Liam Moran..... A truly unbelievable double save! With the clock ticking over into added time at the end of the first half, the Bloods took the lead. A Kilheeney free kick out on the Droylsden right hand side somehow evaded a sea of bodies and straight into the back of the net, to give the home side a deserved 1-0 lead going into the break.....Or so we thought. With 47 minutes on the clock, Nellson Van picked up the ball on the left hand side and after turning Blackpool Centre back William Edmundson inside out, was brought down in the box for a Droylsden penalty, which Killer dispatched with aplomb, and the Bloods went into the break 2 goals to the good. The second half, in comparison wasn't as eventful as the first, with very few clearcut chances for either team, and the Bloods eventually ran out deserved 2-0 winners. The win saw the home side into 2nd position in the opening day league table, with Holker's 5-0 win against Nelson seeing the side from Barrow-In-Furness top after round one of games. Next up for the Bloods is a trip to Maghull FC on Saturday, whilst AFC Blackpool face a trip to a wounded Nelson on the same day.
