Rio Bravo (1959) Reaction & Review! FIRST TIME WATCHING!!

Rio Bravo was a very good western. It wasn’t the best I’ve seen so far but the directing and storytelling by Howard Hawks was solid. Most of the characters were realistic and had agency to them, the performances from John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and Angie Dickenson were great too. I also enjoyed the score and the cinematography and although I thought the pacing was a little slow and there wasn’t a focus on the action, these interesting characters held my attention the entire runtime. If you go into it expecting a ton of gunslinging and action, you’d be disappointed, but I’d recommend this film for fans of good storytelling. (Do let me know which Dean Martin film I should watch next as I really enjoyed his layered performance here).
