Face coverings can have a wide range of uses but when it comes to photography, hiding part of your subject's face creates a sense of mystery and drama. Capturing that emotion in your photography requires more than just a mask, it needs lighting, styling, and editing, something photographer Gavin Hoey explains in this “how-to” video tutorial. As is often the case it all starts with great lighting, so Gavin shows the lighting set-up that works for him and also the lighting that didn't quite give him the drama he was looking for. Eyes are next on his list as Gavin explains why they matter more than ever for this style of the shoot and how make-up can make a difference. Finally, Gavin adds some smoke into his small home studio and color corrects a final image in Photoshop to complete the shot.
