Who didn't love the classic early entries from this 70s and 80s franchise (and to current times!)? The ball, the sphere of death is still an iconic image of horror. Phantasm from 1976, which many people forget places it at the beginning of the indie horror film movement that the film Halloween gets so much credit for. And of course one of the most important elements of the horror movie Phantasm was the indelible horror villain the Tall Man, played with relish by actor Angus Scrimm. This role may not have been seen as much at the time, but the Tall Man as played by actor Angus Scrimm has become an iconic evil villain in horror movie history. Angus Scrimm's elegant portrayal of the evil Tall Man elevated the small part with little dialogue, and became a character the Phantasm franchise would bring back again and again for decades. And in this interview, the Ice Cream Man himself Reggie Bannister tells us about what Angus Scrimm was really like, and how his theatrical 'affectation' informed his riveting performance as the Tall Man.
