Only a handful of popular compounds have abundantly tabulated "steam tables". For all other compounds, however, specific heat capacities have been correlated for a variety of temperatures, and to a lesser extent pressure. Enthalpy of vapourisation has also been abundantly measured for a variety of compounds. This is of course, an ongoing study due to new compounds being continuously invented and studied. The use of heat capacity correlations together enthalpy of vapourisation is essential to quantify enthalpies of compounds relative to a reference state, in order to perform energy balances across chemical process units. In this lecture we investigate their use. Some examples in this video are shown in greater detail in the work of: Reklaitis G.V., 1983, "Introduction to Material and Energy Balances", John Wiley and Sons Inc., United States.
