Keep It Green is excited to have completed the first phase of the Solar Camp project! For three days in a row, participants of this program lived in a campsite at Guri i Plakes a greenery in between two cities; that of powerplants and that of Ferronikeli, where they had the chance to learn more about solar energy and energy security, while experiencing a unique lifestyle in the nature. The agenda of the Solar Camp consisted of productive debates among those present on the topic of the new power plant project “Kosova e Re” versus renewable energy projects. Professional trainers joined our camp to facilitate discussions and session, as well as to answer a wide range of questions that our curious participants had for them. Professor Bujar Turjaka spoke to us about tips and tricks of living out in the nature, how to leave a minimal footprint in the habitat while camping, and the importance of being in harmony with the environment we live in. While Visar Kelmendi, founder and CEO of Green Energy Technologies (GET), shared some very interesting information of how solar energy functions, Kosovo`s potential to go solar and the positive impact that it would have in the mitigation of environmental pollution in the country. Participants, of course, had many questions which got answered in theory and practice since they saw first-hand, for the first time, a few very useful camping tools that produce energy from the sun. Overall, Solar Camp brought together a group of bright Kosovar youngsters which enjoyed the experience of living in a campsite, making new friends, debating, discussing, hiking and exploring the beauty of venue. Today, they departed the camp taking with themselves a new baggage of knowledge on renewable solar energy, and aimed to share that knowledge with their fellow friends. The project is supported by the Empower, Engage and Build Ownership Project, implemented by the Balkan Green Foundation and Institute for Development Policy (INDEP), and financed by the European Union Kosovo.
