CORRECTION: 19:50 Correction Gate Valve half-open: K = 5.6 This video is the pre-laboratory lecture on the Head Loss in Small Bore Piping System of the IEA201/2 Unit Operations Laboratory course of the B.Tech in Environmental Technology degree program, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Course: IEA201/2 Unit Operations Laboratory Topics 00:19 What is head loss? 02:55 The hydraulic gradient 04:35 Types of flow 09:17 Typical units within a piping system 09:29 Head loss in straight pipes 12:18 Head loss due to the sudden expansion 13:28 Head loss due to the sudden contraction 16:38 Head loss due to bends 17:45 The gate valve and the globe valve 20:07 The small-bore piping system 21:43 The light blue circuit 22:29 The dark blue circuit Objectives of the experiment: Straight pipe loss - To obtain hL (head loss) as a function of mass flow rate and f (friction factor) as a function of Re (Reynolds number). Sudden expansion - To compare the measured hL across a sudden expansion with the hL calculated on the assumption of no head loss and hL given by the equation (in the video). Sudden contraction - To compare the hL across a sudden contraction with the fall calculated based on the assumption of no hL and head loss given by the equation (in the video). Bends/Elbow - To obtain values of K (loss coefficient) for five different 90º bends and elbow. Valves - To determine the relationship between K and the mass flow rate for the globe type and the gate type valves.
