Nigel at speed: 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley on a charge to York | The Christmas White Rose - 18.11.25

Making her second outing up the ECML to York this week, 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley was back on her home turf for another "Christmas White Rose" railtour for Saphos Trains. This tour would once again see the A4 take charge of the steam legs between Peterborough and York both ways, directly travelling up the ECML via Grantham & Doncaster. This tour would start at St Albans with diesel haulage to Peterborough where the A4, based at the Nene Valley Railway for these duties, would take over. The day would be a memorable one with three sightings of the pacific at speed. The video starts out at Grantham, where there had been some concern about where the A4 would pass after the tour arrived at Peterborough late, and by the time the A4 had attached it was running 45 minutes down with an LNER service catching up with it. Luckily though, she passed through the station at speed, with the LNER behind it eventually overtaking it at Claypole Loop. Next we moved onto Doncaster, where there was once again tension as a Northern Service on Platform 4 was close to departing, but was thankfully held back until the A4 passed so big thanks to the driver for that. The A4 provided a wonderful performance as it passed its birthplace with a long blast on its chime whistle. Finally, on the return journey under cover of darkness, we capture the A4 heading south through Newark Northgate, once again providing a performance of power and speed, a rewarding day out capturing this blue beast! •Facebook:   / themodsterrailwayvideos
