Joe Azzopardi is an award winning actor and producer, best known for 13 Hours , The Boat and The Way of the Wind. Joe is Maltese born, bred and based - but hit the headlines over his acceptance speech for The Boat’s award for Best Film at the controversial Malta Film Awards - Joe used the occasion speak out about the scandal regarding the the amount of money spent on the awards in contrast to the funding the industry receives. Joe stated: "I don't need to tell you all here how hard it is to make a film, the hardest part being funding, As beautiful as investing in these awards are tonight, I think investing in our indigenous films are more important," The awards had indeed been boycotted by the multi-award winning Luzzu, and other acclaimed films SimShar and Limestone Cowboy.
