What you are seeing is the sheer quantity of war detritus and a fraction of the live ammunition recovered by French EOD specialists during an investigation of the ST19-ST21 German mining system at Vimy Ridge in 2006. It came from a 100 metre square sweep at a depth of only 18cm. Mick Hibberd of the Durand Group describes a few of the more interesting finds recovered at the time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since 1998 The Durand Group - a voluntary association dedicated to researching and investigating subterranean military features - has been recording and interpreting the underground war on the Western Front during WW1. This includes the disarming of live mine charges left over from the conflict, many of which exist in deep tunnels below the old battlefields. Our remit is to disseminate this information to the general public and we are passionate about what we do. To this end we hope that you can support us in our endeavours. Multimedia reports of most of our excavations are available on Amazon, eBay and the Fougasse Films website and funds raised from sales go directly to supporting further excavations, talks, displays and publications.
